The August session of the Reading Group Seminar for the Envisioning the Indian City: Spaces of Encounter project will be held on 27 August 2013 (Tuesday), in the Audio-Visual Room, Department of English, Jadavpur University, between 2 pm and 3.45 pm. We may subsequently shift to the Renaissance Resource Centre if the discussion requires more time.
There will be four speakers in the first half of the session, and this will be followed by discussion. Professor Sukanta Chaudhuri and Professor Monideep Chatterjee will speak on aspects of the history and planning of Kolkata, Professor Swapan Chakravorty will discuss archival resources, and Professor Shubhrajit Das will comment on city-spaces.
We would also like to do a quick survey of the progress that may have been made by the individual researchers in their respective fields, and perhaps, time permitting, take up for discussion specific questions regarding the material that was circulated at the last meeting or since.
